US Treasury Secretary Praises Milei's Economic Reforms in Argentina

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent once again backed President Javier Milei and the measures he has implemented in his government, stating that Argentina has had a 'fantastic success'. This Trump administration official once again expressed his support for the libertarian leader. The last time he did so was in January of this year, when he also defended the $20 billion swap. 'This time is different in Argentina. The country has had a fantastic success,' he said. He also noted that 'the poorest and the young' were the ones who voted for Milei because there is 'a lot of optimism' towards the libertarian administration. Bessent's statements come after the International Monetary Fund (IMF) cut its growth estimates and increased inflation projections for Argentina. In its World Economic Outlook (WEO) report, the international agency cut its forecast by half a percentage point. Nevertheless, Argentina maintains the most favorable projection in the region. 'They are accumulating reserves every day,' he said during an interview conducted at the Institute of International Finance (IIF). There, the US Treasury Secretary highlighted the decrease in poverty and praised the macroeconomic policy adopted by the Government: '10 million people have come out of poverty under President Milei's government'.
